
Archery
Come out and hit the bull’s eye! Learn practical skills of stance, grip, draw-back, anchoring and release while you build strength and increase your accuracy. The necessary equipment, adapted to your needs, is provided, but individuals may bring their own bows and arrows. AZ Heat archery team practices from January through May, with the culminating competition at Desert Challenge.
Bowling
Bowling is a life-long sport enjoyed by everyone! Come and learn the basics of form and the rules while you compete against others of similar abilities. Adaptive equipment is provided. Join AzDS at the AMF Lanes in Mesa both in the spring and fall as well as the Annual Holiday Party, the culminating competition. There is an additional cost at the alley of $5.00 per week for shoe rental and 2 games.

Cycling
Enjoy the fresh air while you gain practical cycling skills as you build your endurance, increase your speed, and improve your technique. Adaptive cycles are provided, including both hand cranked and foot powered three wheelers. Join AzDS for cycling at El Dorado Park from September through December with a potential sponsorship in Tucson’s El Tour de Tucson ride in November.

Kayaking
Like to be on the lake? Join AzDS and improve your skills in paddling and steering while increasing your endurance and speed, all while enjoying the outdoors. Adaptive equipment, kayaks, paddles, and personal floatation devices are provided. Demonstration of water skills during water orientation at a local pool is required prior to an individual’s experience on open water. AzDS kayaking season runs September through December

Power Soccer
Power soccer is the fastest growing team sport designed for people of all ages who use a power wheelchair in their everyday life. Join AzDS’ teams and learn the rules, techniques, and teamwork skills necessary to enjoy this highly competitive sport. Practices at the Broadway Recreation Center are weekly from September through June, with monthly games and a culminating national tournament within the US.

Swimming
Join the swim team and improve your stroke skills, speed, and endurance while exercising in a heated 25yd lap pool. The AzDS aquatics program is not designed to teach swim lessons to non-swimmers. The season runs from February through May, with the culminating competition at Desert Challenge.
Track & Field
Love to go fast? Come and join the AZ Heat track team! You will gain practical skills in running or pushing form and body position while building your endurance and increasing your speed. Adapted track racers are available for wheelchair users.
You can also learn the proper techniques for discus, javelin, shot put, and long jump on our competitive field team. Throwing chairs are provided for non-ambulatory athletes.
The track and field teams train at Mesa High School from January through May, with the culminating competition at the Desert Challenge games in June.
Goalball
Goalball is a sport exclusive to athletes with visual impairments, played by both men and women. Played in a gym court, the objective of the game is to throw the ball using a bowling motion into the opponent’s net while the opposing plyers try to block the ball with their bodies. AzDS is excited to host both an adult and youth goalball team. Our participants are friendly and enthusiastic about teaching newcomers the sport they love! Goalball practices at the Broadway Recreation Center in both the fall and spring.
Air Gun & Rifle
Like to shoot or want to learn? Well then, our air gun & rifle program is for you! You will gain practical skills in the art of shooting and marksmanship. AzDS provides all the rifles, stands, tables, chairs, pistols, and pellets for each participant. We can also provide the necessary adaptive equipment for an individual with a visual impairment to practice as well. The sport is played inside a gymnasium at 10 meters distance. Practices are held at the Broadway Recreation Center March through May, with the culminating competition at Desert Challenge.
